Whether you are a novice wanting basic casting instruction, or an experienced angler wanting a local guide, I can provide a tailor-made service to suit your needs.

Basic training for the novice fly angler

It is often quite nerve-wracking for the novice to embark on one-to-one tuition - for anything - with a stranger. Please let me put your mind at rest, I have a very patient and understanding nature, and undertake the tuition at a safe and relaxed location.

I will take you through the whole process, including safety, legal requirements, equipment and assembly. Then on to the casting: first we have a look at the roll cast and then into the overhead, all done in an easy-to-understand, progressive manner.

I can provide all equipment. Although you may have your own already, if you are an absolute beginner, I strongly recommended that you talk to an instructor before spending that hard-earned cash: it could save you a lot of money in the long run!

I usually use Kennick reservoir for my novice tuition and can offer an Introduction to Fly Fishing for the Novice session for an all inclusive price of £60. The introduction will last for at least two and a half hours and will include all equipment, licence and permit. The last hour is spent fishing and if you catch a fish, I will show you how to clean it and prepare it for cooking!
