Totnes is a smallish (pop. circa 7500) country town in the South Hams district of Devon, SW England. It is the place where - allegedly - Brutus the Trojan set foot and gave his name to Britain. It is consistently voted one of the funkiest, grooviest, hippest places to be, but don't let that put you off. Normal people are welcome here too, although you may feel out of place at times.
Fridays and Saturdays are market days throughout the year and there is often a flea market (if you collect fleas) on Fridays and a Farmers' Market happens on the last Saturday of the month. On Tuesdays during the summer, you can experience the delights of our Elizabethan market, with its fine selection of authentic, Tudor toilet roll cosies. See some old Totnes photos here
